For graduation card, I like to match the school colors. Both the schools we received invitations for this year have orange as one of their colors, so I made 2 cards with the same design, just different base colors.

Instructions

BASE CARD

Start with black card stock, cut to 5 1/2" x 11", score at 5 1/2" and fold.

MAT

Cut the orange card stock to 5 3/8" x 5 3/8", and round all 4 corners. Cut the black swirl paper to 5 1/4" x 5 1/4" using a scalloped blade. Mount the black swirl mat onto the orange mat. Glue black & white twine in a curve around the top two corners.

Cut/emboss 4 orange banners, 4 gold stars, and 1 gold tassel. Glue 2 banners on the twine in each corner, and adhere a gold star to each banner.

Cut a six-inch strip of gold ribbon. Tie a bow using gold ribbon onto the ribbon strip then mount across the mat using double-sided tape, with the bow on the far left of the card. Mount the mat with ribbon onto the front of the card. Glue the tassel just below the bow.

IMAGE

Resize the graduate image to be 3 1/4" in height. Print the image on white card stock. Cut/emboss the image using an petite oval die. Cut/emboss an orange scalloped oval using a die just larger than the oval used to cut out the image.

Color the image with COPIC markers. I used these colors:

• Skin: E0000, E01, R20
• Hair: E55, E57
• Cap & Gown: C3, C5, C7, 100
• Skirt: YG61 & YG67 - OR - C3 & C5
• Tie & Shoes: YR12, YR14
• Diploma: E30, E31
• Shadow: C0, C1
• Tassel: Gold SPICA

Mount the image oval onto the orange scalloped oval, then adhere it to the card front.

SENTIMENT

Stamp the sentiment in black ink on white card stock. Punch it out using the oval punch. Punch a scalloped oval from black card stock. Mount the sentiment oval onto the black oval. Color the star in the sentiment with the gold SPICA pen. Mount the sentiment to the lower right of the image using foam squares.

You Made My Day

Inspiration

I designed this card using a sketch from a small sketch group I participate in. I needed a thank you for a co-worker who had sent me a lovely bouquet to thank me for working an 80-hour week to meet a deadline, so I made 2! The blue one went to the co-worker, and the rust-colored one went to the sketch group.

BASE CARD and MAT

Start with base color card stock measuring 4 1/4" x 11, score at 5 1/2" and fold. Cut a piece of mat card stock to 4" x 5 1/4", and stamp "Thanks" randomly over it. Wrap the twine around the top portion of the mat, then mount the mat on the card front.

TAG

The distress layers are all made using a single tag, made using the "Spritz & Flick" technique from Tim Holtz. First, using the blending tool cover the tag with colors. When you have the colors blended the way you like them, add a shade of brown around the edges of the tag. Now, spritz some water into your cupped hand, and flick droplets across the tag off your fingers. You can do a little or a lot. When the tag is dry (you can dry them with a heat tool if you want to), cut the tag into 3 strips.

Trim left side strip to 5" long, and the right side strip to 4 3/4". Trim the middle piece to 3 7/8" long.

SENTIMENT

Size the image to be 5/8" in height. Print the sentiment image on ivory card stock and cut the sentiment out to measure 3/4" x 4".

ASSEMBLY

Adhere the left tag strip onto the card front about 1/2" from the bottom edge of the card. Add the sentiment strip above the bottom tag strip, then mount the right tag strip above the sentiment. Thread 3 pieces of twine through the hole in the middle tag strip. Mount the remaining center tag strip vertically across the mounted strips. Glue a gear only the top strip.

I seem to be in the mode of creating masculine cards lately, for the standard birthdays, etc. This week I needed a card for a friend recovering from a serious illness. I'm also into using digitals - quick and easy! Unfortunately, I don't remember where I got the motorcycle image, but it fit the sentiment from Create with TLC so well, I decided to use it. I like the way it turned out, don't you?

Cut/emboss the Fleur De Lis edge from light green card stock. Trim to 7" long, and mount on the card front, covering the edge of the patterned mat.

IMAGE

Print the motorcycle image on white card stock, and trim closely. Use a craft knife to cut out central spaces. Mount on the left card front using foam squares.

SENTIMENT

Print the sentiment image on white card stock, then cut/emboss using a classic circle die. Cut/emboss light green card stock using the Fleur De Lis pendant shaped die. Glue the die cut on the right card front, and the sentiment on the die cut.

Start with a piece of dark blue card stock measuring 5" x 10", score at 5" and fold.

Cut a piece of light blue card stock measuring 4 3/4" X 4 3/4". Stamp the balloon in dark blue ink across the top of the light blue card stock mat. Mount a piece of patterned paper measuring 2 3/8" x 4 5/8""on the bottom half of the mat.

Adhere a piece of dark blue ribbon across the mat, covering the "seam" where the patterned paper stops. Mount the mat to the front of the card.

IMAGE

Resize the image to 3" in height. Print the digi stamp on white card stock, and trim to a rectangle measuring 2" x 3 1/4". Color with COPIC markers. I used these colors:

• Hair: E30, E35, E37
• Skin: E000, E01, R20
• Balloon: YR02, YR04, YR07
• Shirt: YR02, Orange SPICA
• Shorts: B02, B06
• Flower: Y13, YR02, YG13

Cut mats for the image - dark blue card stock cut to 2 1/4" x 3 1/2", and orange card stock cut to 2 1/8" x 3 3/8". Mount the image onto the orange, and the orange onto the dark blue. Mount in the center of the card front.

Finish by mounting 3 blue metal dots in the upper right corner of the card front.

Two Little Ones

Good morning! Here's a card I made for a coworker who was recently blessed with twins - a boy and a girl! The card design is called a "Double Twisted Easel", which fits twins just perfectly. I found the tutorial on Card Making Magic. It's really quite easy, but looks impressive - and it folds flat to mail!

I used these sweet images from Mo's Digital Pencil - I'm really beginning to enjoy digital images - cheap, resize-able, and NO storage issues. And this artist gives you lots of options to choose from - these images came with straight hair, curly hair, or bald. I'm entering this card in this week's challenge on Mo's Digital Challenge Blog - it is "anything goes" with one of Mo's images.

BASE CARD and MATS

Start with a 8" x 8" piece of brown card stock, score across the card at 4" and at 90 degrees to the score line, cut at 4" into the scored line. Mount a 3 7/8" x 7 7/8" of designer paper on the uncut side of the card.

On the two 4" x 4" corners of the base card, score diagonally as shown in the template. Fold them inward toward the patterned mat. Adhere a 4" x 4" square of brown card stock to each of the two folded corners. This creates the base.

SENTIMENT

I printed the sentiment on cream paper using Microsoft Word (changing the text color to brown) and the same Epson printer - I found the text on a quotations website - unfortunately, I didn't save the URL. You can use your favorite baby stamp or quotation. After printing, use an petite oval die to cut/emboss the sentiment. Cut/emboss a brown card stock petite scalloped oval to mat the sentiment. Mount onto the designer paper on the card base in the center, using foam squares. This provides a "stop" to allow the easels to stand up.

IMAGES

Resize the image to about 2 1/2" in height. Print the images in black ink on cream paper. Trim each one with a little margin - it's much easier than trying to "fussy cut" these! Color with COPIC markers - I used these colors:

• Skin: E000, E02, R20
• Hair: E53, E55
• Dress: RV10, RV11, RV13
• Bracelet: Spica blossom
• Suit: B32, B34, Y13, Y21

FINAL ASSEMBLY

Cut/emboss scalloped hearts in blue and pink card stock. Cut/emboss 2 plain hearts using matching patterned paper. Mount these patterned hearts onto the scalloped hearts, and adhere them to the two brown squares.

Cut/emboss 2" circles in blue and pink card stock. Mount the blue circle on the blue scalloped hearts, and the pink circle on the other heart.

Mount the baby images onto the hearts using foam squares.

Rockin Birthday

Good morning, Monday. I enjoyed a long weekend and got the opportunity to make an extra card or two. This is my first time to enter the Mo's DP2 Challenge - this week it's anything goes, with an optional sketch, as long as you use one of Mo's images. I used the sketch, and picked the Air Guitar image for a birthday boy who loves music.

Cut a piece of blue card stock measuring 6" x 12", score at 6", and fold. Cut a piece of music-patterned paper measuring 5 7/8" x 5 7/8", and mount on the front of the card. In the center of the card, mount another mat made of black pin-striped paper, measuring 4 3/4" x 4 7/8".

Use the Music M-Bossabilities folder to emboss white card stock. From this embossed stock, cut a strip measuring 1 3/4" x 5 7/8". Cut a strip of blue card stock measuring 1 7/8" x 5 7/8". Mount the embossed white strip onto the blue strip, and mount them onto the right side of the front of the card.

IMAGE

Print the image on white card stock, then cut out to measure 3 7/8" x 4 1/8". Cut a blue mat for the image, measuring 4 1/8" x 4 1/4".

Color the image with COPIC markers. I used these colors:

• HAIR: E53, E57
• SKIN: E000, E00, E11, R20
• MOUTH: R21, R22, R24
• T-SHIRT: Y32, Y35, Y38

Mount the image onto the mat.

FINAL STEPS

Wrap twine around the card front 3 times, and tie with a bow. Hold the bow in place with a glue dot. Mount the image over the twine on the card front.

Finally, use the music die to cut two diecuts from black card stock. Clip one set across the top bar to create a single note. Glue the notes to the card front.

Cut a piece of pink card stock measuring 7" x 10", score at 5", and fold. Use the corner rounder punch to round the two corners on the opening side of the card.

MAT

Cut a piece of patterned paper measuring 4 7/8" x 6 7/8", and round 2 corners of the mat. Use double sided tape to mount the ribbon on the left side of the mat.

IMAGE

Resize the image on your computer to be 5" in height. Print the image, then cut/emboss with the largest Petite Oval die. Cut/emboss a green mat for the image using the smallest Grand Scalloped Oval die.

Color the image with COPIC markers. I used these colors:

• HAIR BOW/SOCKS: R30, R32

Stamp the sentiment in black on a piece of white card stock measuring 7/8" x 2 3/8". Adhere this to a piece of pink card stock measuring 1" x 2 1/2". Mount this to the card front below the image.

Finally, glue the the flowers to the upper left of the image, and add pearls to the right of the image.

New Baby Boy

Here's a baby card I made for a co-worker's baby shower. It's plenty big for lots of people to sign inside.

I found the cute "Cuddle Cloud Baby" digital image on Meljen's Designs. I used a sketch from the Sketch Saturday challenge for the layout. It's an older sketch - challenge 192.

The base card is a piece of dark blue card stock measuring 6" x 12". Score it 6", and fold.

MAT LAYERS

Cut a piece of light blue card stock measuring 5 7/8" x 5 7/8". Mount 3 pieces of ribbon around the left side of the mat layer. Twist the white ribbon once before you adhere it to the card. Tie a white ribbon bow, and mount it over the twist in the white ribbon stripe.

Cut a piece of patterned paper measuring 2 1/2" x 4", and mount it horizontally above the bow.

Cut another piece of patterned paper measuring 3" x 5". Using a paper peircer mount 5 brads across the bottom of this piece of paper. Mount it vertically on the right side of the card front.

IMAGE

I resized the image to a length of 3". Print the image on white card stock, and cut/emboss it using the largest plain oval nestabilities. Color with COPIC markers. I used these colors:

I received an order for a December graduation card for a college grad, and had time this weekend to put it together. The image is a fun digital stamp from "Sassy Cheryl" I found doing a quick "graduation digital stamp" Google search. I used the Sketch Saturday Challenge #181 for the layout.

Size the digital image on your computer to measure 3.75" in height. Print the image on white card stock. I let mine sit for an hour or so to make sure the ink won't run when I color it. Color the image with COPIC markers. I used these colors:

Enhance the tassel with the gold SPICA pen. Cut/emboss the image using the largest petite oval die, and mount on the blue oval mat on the front of the card.

OTHER IMAGES

Stamp the book, and the word "Congratulations" from the Tassel Time stamp set. Cut out the diploma and graduate head (the "o" and "i" from the word), and the book. Color with COPIC markers.

Color all of the trimmed images with COPIC markers. I used these colors:

Enhance the tassel with the gold SPICA pen. Mount the images on the lower right edge of the main image on the front of the card.

SENTIMENT

Cut/emboss 2 ribbon banners - one in white, and one in blue. Trim the white one to just the inner portion of the banner. Stamp the sentiment in black ink on the white banner. Glue the white piece onto the matching area of the blue banner, and mount the banner in the upper right corner of the card.

A Young Man Turns 11

Inspiration

I have a friend whose son turned 11 on September 9, and turning 11 is an important date in a young wizard's life. So in honor of that date, an impressive Harry Potter party was held in his honor, and that required an impressive Harry Potter card! Fun was had by all - an wonderful party - lots of fun - an event that won't soon be forgotten.

I used digital coloring book pages I downloaded and printed onto my favorite white cardstock, and colored with COPIC markers - all pretty quick & easy! The only problem I had was that "Gryffindor" was misspelled in the drawing I liked, so I had to repair it in Photoshop.

Print the images on the white card stock, and let them dry - usually it doesn't take too long. My method is I print, then cut all the other pieces, and by the time I'm done, it's ready to go. Cut the two images out.

Color with COPICs and SPICAs. Here are the colors I used:

Pink Pony Birthday

Inspiration

This card was made for a special girl turning six - she is celebrating with a "painted pony party" with REAL ponies! This party service has white ponies, and they've dyed the manes pink and blue and rainbow colors - it's really quite cute! So, I just HAD to find an image of a little girl with a pony. I found this image at Karen's Doodles, and it fits the big event just perfectly!

Print the digital image on the white cardstock. I print it on the same paper I stamp on for COPICS (Stamper's Select), and usually let it sit for a while before I start coloring.

Color with COPIC markers. I used these colors:

• Pony's mane, tail, hooves: RV10, RV32, RV34, RV55
  
• Pony shadows: C00, C1, C3
  
• Girl's dress, vest, and boots: RV10, RV32, RV34

Embellish the image with SPICA pens - Blossom and Clear on the mane, tail and hooves; Pitch Black on the pony's eyes. Add adhesive rhinestones on the boots, and pearls on the flowers.

Assembly

Punch the bottom edge of the front of the card using the edge punch. Mount the strip of white paper just above the punched border, and mount the patterned paper strip centered on the white.

Cut and emboss a dark pink lacey square, and mount the finished image on the die cut. Mount this centered on the front of the card.

Finish off with some adhesive pearl flourishes around the image.

I’m Late, I’m Late!

Inspiration

This was my “theme song” for December, so of course, I missed a couple of birthdays around the Christmas/New Year holiday.  This is the card I made for those folks I missed.

The layout is based on a past SCS Sketch Challenge - #296.

I used a digital image I found on a “coloring pages for kids page” – it’s a Disney image available in tons of places on the web, but not something that can be sold, just use for personal greetings.

After printing the image, let it stand for a while, or heat it with a heat gun to prevent smearing of the printed lines.

For me, if I print first, then cut all my other cardstock pieces, by the time I’ve completed the cutting and gluing to get the card base done, the ink is plenty dry.

Color the image with COPIC markers and SPICA pens, then cut it out, trimming closely. Here are the colors I used:

Umbrella-B21, B24, E44

• Coat - R24, R29
• Vest - Y21, Y24
• Pants, Tie - C3, C5, C7
• Clock - Y26, Y28, Gold SPICA
• Clock hands - Red SPICA

Sentiment

Print the sentiment in red on white cardstock, and punch it out with the smaller circle punch. Punch a red circle, and mount the sentiment on the red circle.

Assembly

Mount the patterned paper onto the solid color mats. You should end up with a rectangle matted in black, and two patterned squares mounted on red.

Mount the black matted rectangle across the lower portion of the card, followed by a square rotated to have a corner pointed vertically at the left end of the rectangle. Mount the second square onto the first one, with a flat side of the square across the top.

Add the sentiment in the lower right corner; then mount the image using foam tape.

Inside the card, I stamped directly on the yellow card base using Real Red ink and the “I’m sorry I’m late” sentiment from the SU! set Birthday Greetings.

I made 4 of these - although I’m hoping I don’t have to use one again soon!

Digital Stamping!

Inspiration
Well, I’m very late posting today – mostly because I’ve been making cards!  Another great weekend getting my creativity stoked up for the holiday season.  I had 2 special card orders to fill – both VERY specific as to topic.  When that happens, I often don’t have a stamp to fit the exact need – that’s the best time for me to turn to digi stamps.  They are really fun, and so flexible.  For me, they inspire me to use lots of my accessories and embellishments.  I’ll show you both creations below.


To use a digital stamp, I do a lot of web-surfing to find the image I like, then purchase, or (just download if they’re free!).  After planning the card design, I use Photoshop to open the image and get them sized just right for the card.  In Photoshop, you can enlarge or shrink an image, or flip them to a mirror of the original to make them fit together just the way you want.


Then, just print them with your regular printer (I have an Epson RX620 Ink Jet printer).  If you use COPICs, you may need to let them dry for a while before you color – I actually printed mine Saturday afternoon, and colored them today, so there was no danger of smearing.  If you’re in a hurry, you can always blast the paper with a heat gun, and you should be good to go.
Card 1: Longhorn Girl
The first special request was for a “congrats” card for a high school senior who just found out she’s been accepted at the University Of Texas in Austin.  When I looked on Splitcoast (here), I found a card I liked, and her information sent me to Anne Bodil’s site (here) – a Norwegian scrapper who draws beautifully, and provides a free digi every once in a while.  I loaded it into Photoshop, and added some Longhorn symbols and stars.  Here’s her special card.

Paper and Images
After printing the girl image, cut it out using the Classic Oval.  Cut and emboss a Scalloped oval in black.  Cut the plaid paper with a deckle edge blade, and the printed window sheet with a straight blade.
Stamp the sentiment on the white scrap and punch it out with the plain oval.  Punch a black scalloped oval, and mount the sentiment on the scalloped oval.
Color the girl using COPICs – here’s what I used on each part:  Skin: E000 and E00; Eyes: SPICA Chocolate; Hair: E27, E31, E50; Longhorns/Stars/Hair bows: Gelly Roll MED – Orange; Dress: Pumpkin Pie; Shirt: YR02; Leggings: YR02 and Black Multi-Liner; Shoes: Black Multi-Liner
I finished up by using a sponge and some pumpkin pie ink to slightly color the edges of the white oval.
Assembly
Layer on the textured orange panel, followed by the clear panel, followed by the plaid.  Tie the ribbon around the middle.  Mount the black scalloped oval over the ribbon, and the image of the girl on the black scalloped oval.
Fold the black card base on the scored line.  Mount the artwork on the front.
Inside
For this card, I cut another textured orange panel (4 1/8” x 5 3/8” ), and a white panel (4” x 5 1/8”), and mounted them inside.  I stamped the “congrats on your big news” from the same Absolutely Fabulous stamp set in black.
Card 2: Dairy Farmer
No kidding!  A friend has a son who is turning 30, and wants to start a dairy farm.  I made a card for him a couple years ago (see it here).  Now, 30 is a big one, so she is going to help him buy is first card, so she needed a BIG card to present to him.  Who has 2 original cow stamp sets????  Back to the digital resources!  I found a fun farm on the My Grafico website, and here’s what I created.

After printing the farm images on the Paper Trey white paper, color with the COPICs – here’s what I used:

I printed the greeting on the Georgia Pacific white.
Then cut everything out! Yes – this IS the tedious part.  Hint: I ran the cows, the barn, and the girl through the Xyron before cutting them out, so they’d stick really well.  I didn’t do that with the man, because of the layering in the assembly.
Assembly
Fold the base card on the score line, and crease it well.  Mount the cloud paper on the top part of the front.  Free-hand cut 3 hills from the grass paper – mount the top-most hill with regular adhesive, then layer the next two hills on with foam tape.
Peel & stick the cows and barn, and little girl.  Put adhesive on the part of the man that will not stick above the hill, and mount it too.
For the greeting – again, I ran it through the Xyron, trimmed it closely and mounted it “in the clouds”.
Inside
For this card, I cut a piece of olive green textured cardstock (10” x 8” ), and a printed a sentiment (“MILK it for all it’s worth!  Happy Birthday”) in black on another sheet of Georgia Pacific white.
I trimmed the white panel to 9 1/2” x 7 1/2” and mounted it on the green, and then then mounted them inside.
