In Sympathy

Inspiration

This card was made for a co-worker who lost his father to cancer recently. It's based on sketch challenge 193 at Splitcoast Stampers, using Tim Holtz techniques for coloring the tag.

Ink Blending Tool (Ranger)
Fiber (unknown)
3-D Foam Squares (Scrapbook Adhesives)
ATG (3M)
Scor-Pal
Cutter Bee Scissors (EK Success)
Rotary Trimmer (Fiskars)

Instructions

BASE CARD

Start with a piece of brown card stock measuring 7" x 10", score at 5" and fold. Using black ink, and holding the butterfly stamp in your hand instead of on an acrylic block, randomly stamp various butterflies over the card front.

BACKGROUND LAYERS

Cut a strip of yellow card stock to 1 1/2" x 7", and mount vertically on the card front 3/4" from the left edge. Cut 3 strips of blue paper to 1" x 4 1/4", and 3 strips of patterned paper to 3/4" x 4 1/4". Mount each strip of patterned paper onto a blue strip, then mount horizontally on the front of the card.

TAG

I made this tag using the "Spritz & Flick" technique from Tim Holtz. First, using the blending tool cover the tag with colors. I used Tumbled Glass, Peeled Paint, and Wild Honey. When you have those blended the way you like them, add Brushed Corduroy around the edges of the tag. Now, spritz some water into your cupped hand, and flick droplets across the tag off your fingers. You can do a little or a lot.

When the tag is dry (you can dry them with a heat tool if you want to), stamp the image on both tags using black archival ink. Dry the image with a heat tool.

Tie fibers through the hole in the tag, then mount it on the front of the card using foam squares.

SENTIMENT

Stamp the sentiment in blue ink on patterned paper, and cut it out using a classic oval die. Cut/emboss a brown lacy oval. Mount the sentiment oval onto the brown oval, and mount on the card using foam squares.

You Made My Day

Inspiration

I designed this card using a sketch from a small sketch group I participate in. I needed a thank you for a co-worker who had sent me a lovely bouquet to thank me for working an 80-hour week to meet a deadline, so I made 2! The blue one went to the co-worker, and the rust-colored one went to the sketch group.

BASE CARD and MAT

Start with base color card stock measuring 4 1/4" x 11, score at 5 1/2" and fold. Cut a piece of mat card stock to 4" x 5 1/4", and stamp "Thanks" randomly over it. Wrap the twine around the top portion of the mat, then mount the mat on the card front.

TAG

The distress layers are all made using a single tag, made using the "Spritz & Flick" technique from Tim Holtz. First, using the blending tool cover the tag with colors. When you have the colors blended the way you like them, add a shade of brown around the edges of the tag. Now, spritz some water into your cupped hand, and flick droplets across the tag off your fingers. You can do a little or a lot. When the tag is dry (you can dry them with a heat tool if you want to), cut the tag into 3 strips.

Trim left side strip to 5" long, and the right side strip to 4 3/4". Trim the middle piece to 3 7/8" long.

SENTIMENT

Size the image to be 5/8" in height. Print the sentiment image on ivory card stock and cut the sentiment out to measure 3/4" x 4".

ASSEMBLY

Adhere the left tag strip onto the card front about 1/2" from the bottom edge of the card. Add the sentiment strip above the bottom tag strip, then mount the right tag strip above the sentiment. Thread 3 pieces of twine through the hole in the middle tag strip. Mount the remaining center tag strip vertically across the mounted strips. Glue a gear only the top strip.

Trip To Health

Inspiration

I seem to be in the mode of creating masculine cards lately, for the standard birthdays, etc. This week I needed a card for a friend recovering from a serious illness. I'm also into using digitals - quick and easy! Unfortunately, I don't remember where I got the motorcycle image, but it fit the sentiment from Create with TLC so well, I decided to use it. I like the way it turned out, don't you?

BASE CARD and MATS

Start with a piece of blue card stock measuring 7" x 10", score at 5", and fold. Cut a piece of textured yellow card stock measuring 4 7/8" x 6 7/8", and mount to the front of the card. Cut green card stock to measure 4 5/8" x 6 5/8", distress the edges and mount on the front of the card.

IMAGES

Cut patterned paper to measure 4 1/2" x 6 1/2". Ink the grass image with green ink and stamp several times across the right side and bottom of the patterned paper.

Using distress markers ink the tall blooms with purple ink and green stems and stamp on the left of the patterned paper. Ink the dandelions with yellow and dark green markers, and stamp twice. Stamp the fence twice on ivory card stock, using brown ink.

Stamp the broken wheel once on ivory card stock, also in brown ink. Cut these out with the matching dies, then color with a light brown marker. Finally stamp the flowers with purple blossoms using green ink on a scrap of patterned paper, trim it closely.

Add green ink around the edges of the image with a blending tool or sponge, and mount it on the green mat on the front of the card. Glue on the 2 fences, and add the wheel and the trimmed flower with foam squares. Add liquid pearls to the dandelions and small purple blooms.

Thinking About You

Inspiration

Here's my second design team project for Heartfelt Creations this week. I'm using the Old English Garden Collection stamps. I think the sentiments are really pretty, and I'm really enjoying creating cards with them. The other thing I did on this card that's new will just amaze anyone who knows me - I actually set up my sewing machine and stitched on the card!

Cutter Bee Scissors (EK Success)
Rotary Trimmer (Fiskars)

Instructions

BASE CARD

Start with a piece of dark pink card stock measuring 5 1/2" x 11". Score it at 5 1/2", and fold. Use a corner rounder to round all 4 corners. Randomly stamp the flower swirl in dark pink ink all over the card front.

MAT

Cut a piece of light green card stock measuring 4" x 4 1/4". Randomly stamp the broken cinder block background in light green ink all over the green card stock. Cut a piece of adhesive fabric paper measuring 4 1/4" x 5". Adhere the green piece to the front of the fabric paper to hold it in place. Then sew a dark pink line around three sides of the mats. Remove the adhesive from the back of the fabric paper, and adhere it to the card front, leaving space at the top of the card for the button.

BUTTON

Tie a 3-loop bow using pink jute, leaving long ends. Glue the bow to the front of a dark pink button, then glue the button just above the edge of the fabric paper mat on the card front. Tape the two ends of the bow onto the green mat, so that they will look like the teacup image is hanging from them.

IMAGE

Stamp the medium teacup and handle on white card stock. Cut these out using the matching dies. Color with COPIC markers. I used these colors:

  • Leaves: YG93
  • Flowers: R56, R59, Y04
  • Cup: C0, R81

Cut/emboss a lacy circle using dark pink card stock. Mount the circle onto the green mat using foam squares, then add the teacup and handle onto the circle using foam squares.

SENTIMENT

Stamp the sentiment in dark pink ink on white card stock, then trim closely. Mount on the card front in the lower right corner.

Vintage Carriage

Inspiration

Hello and Happy Friday!!!!! I'm so glad to see this week end - big project at work with lots of hours all week! And, best of all, I'm headed to craft classes Saturday and Sunday taught by TIM HOLTZ IN PERSON!!! Yea!

This is my third Heartfelt Creations card this week - they keep getting simpler and simpler, don't they? This card probably has the shortest list of accessories I've ever published. The card is simply layers of paper, and a single silhouette image. When I found this patterned paper, I knew it was perfect for this carriage - and in this case, simple is good!
