Making History

Inspiration

I picked up this stylish lady image at one of the stamp shows in Dallas earlier this year. It really is fun! I immediately thought it would be perfect for a friend's birthday this week, and thought how versatile it would be if I used paper piecing - a new patterned paper equals a new dress!

After I made it, I found that the Corrosive Challenge Blog has a paper piecing challenge this week called "Give Piece a Chance" - how cute!

I'm entering this one in the Craft Your Passion challenge, too - it's an "anything goes" week.

BASE CARD

Make the base card using a piece of yellow card stock cut to 7" x 10". Score it at 5", and fold.

MAT LAYER

Cut a piece of light green card stock to measure 3 1/2" x 6 7/8". Using double sided tape, mount a strip of ribbon vertically on the left side of this mat layer. Mount the mat on the left side of the card front. Tie a matching bow, and adhere to the ribbon strip.

IMAGE

Stamp the image 3 times: once on the dress fabric patterned paper, once on the pink designer paper, and once on a piece of white card stock measuring 4 1/2" x 5 1/2". Cut/emboss the image on white card stock using the Grand Ovals die that leaves a small border around the image. On the white image using COPIC markers, color the face, arms, legs using E000 and E02, and hair using Y21. Color the bracelets with a green SPICA glitter pen.

Cut the dress and hat band out carefully. Cut the hat, dress belt and collar, drape, and shoes from the pink paper image. Carefully glue the trimmed images onto the white image.

Cut/emboss a Grand Scalloped Oval from the pink card stock. Mount on the card fron to the right of the bow. Adhere the image oval onto the scalloped oval mat. Use Diamond Stickles to cover the embossed edge of the pink scalloped oval.

SENTIMENT

Cut/emboss a ribbon banner from white card stock. Stamp the sentiment in brown ink on the white ribbon die cut. Mount below the image on the card front. Use Diamond Stickles to cover the embossed edges of the ribbon banner.

Candle in the Window

Inspiration

It's another Wednesday, so it's another Heartfelt Creations day! One of my favorite things to do with HC stamps is layered flowers, and the candle image from the Holiday Poinsettia Candle PreCut Set in September's Christmas Cheer Collection is PERFECT for this technique. I paired it with the sentiment from the Poinsettia Bells & Bows PreCut Set. Remember to check out the Heartfelt Creations blog for tons of creative inspiration from the design team members.

Instructions

BASE CARD

Cut a card from red card stock measuring 7" x 10", score at 5", and fold. Cut a white card stock mat measuring 4 7/8" x 6 7/8". Cut a blue metallic card stock mat measuring 4 3/4" x 6 3/4". Use the corner punch to punch each corner of the blue mat, then mount the blue onto the white. Mount a strip of ribbon around the center of the blue/white mat. Mount the mat onto the front of the card.

WINDOW

Cut a piece of white card stock measuring 3 1/2" x 4", and use the corner round on each corner. Stamp the large snowy image using Versamark, and heat emboss with silver embossing powder. Mount this in the center of the blue mat over the ribbon. Cut/emboss a decorative window die cut. Mount the window die cut over the white snowflake image using foam tape. Tie a bow from matching ribbon and mount to the right of the window.

SENTIMENT

Stamp the sentiment using Versamark, and heat emboss with silver embossing powder. Cut the sentiment out closely, and cut it into 2 pieces. Mount these pieces above and below the window.

CANDLE

Candle Sideview

The candle image is made up of 4 layers; stamp the entire candle image twice, then stamp the flower portion of the image an additional two times. Cut out one complete candle and flower image. From the second entire image, cut out the flame and wax dripping and the 3 poinsettias (everything in red). From one of the flower-only images, cut the full center poinsettia. From the last flower-only image, cut the top-most poinsettia made up of the 5 full petals. Color with COPIC markers. I used these colors: Candle: E30, E31; flame: Y32, Y35; leaves: G21, G28; and petals: R24, R29.

Mount the layers on the left of the window using foam tape to separate the layers. Finish by enhancing the image with SPICA pens. I used Lemon to color the center of the poinsettia, and Olive on the leaves, Lipstick on the petals, and Orange on the candle flame.

Sympathy From Friends

Inspiration

I used this as my third project submittal to the Heartfelt Creations design team contest. This card was created for a coworker who had lost his father-in-law, and has many close friends in our workplace. I wanted something that would be big enough for several people to sign, and would let my friend and his wife know they have the support of the friends he sees every day at work.

Instructions

Step 1: Stamp the lilies on the vanilla cardstock using the caramel ink. Color with pencils, and blend with mineral spirits and paper stumps. Embellish the flowers with glitter pens. Trim the image closely.

Step 2: Stamp the scroll on Vellum in the suede ink, and the sentiment in the middle of the scroll in the same ink. Let the ink dry, then cut the scroll out.

Step 3: Cut and score the base green card. Use the edge punch to shape the bottom edge of the front of the card.

Step 4: Using the deckle blade cut the patterned paper. Add a piece of ribbon horizontally across the patterned panel, and adhere the panel to the front of the card.

Step 5: Stamp the leaves in caramel on the lower corner of the scroll, and embellish with a gold glitter pen. Stamp the leaves again on a piece of vanilla cardstock, and color the leaves with pencils and blend with mineral spirits. Cut the leaves out, and mount them over the image on the scroll with foam tape.

Step 6: Mount the lilies image on the left of the scroll with foam tape.

Step 7: Tie a double-loop bow using the Bow-Easy, and mount with a glue dot on the right of the scroll on the ribbon line.

Final Notes

This card could easily be used for an Easter card, or anytime you have someone who needs some encouragement.

Inspiration

Every year for the last 3 years, I’ve have the wonderful opportunity to take a 3-day weekend in the fall to escape work and home and craft with friends at a local scrapbook retreat. I usually use this time to make my Christmas cards (150 or so), and play with new toys, etc. Well, this year we didn’t SC303“retreat”, but spent the weekend at my house - still a wonderful escape time! At this point, I’m only in the Christmas card design phase - not the mass production phase, so today you’ll see one of my first designs I will be considering for cards to send this year.

Today’s is the current SCS Sketch Challenge (#303)

Instructions
Image

The bells are stamped twice, both on Paper Trey white using the Tuxedo black ink.  Using COPIC markers, I colored one image completely and then colored only the front bell with ribbon and some holly.  I covered the bells and the ribbon with the clear SPICA pen.  Then I cut out the colored bell and ribbon on the partially colored image.

The fully colored image was cut out using the largest oval of the Small Oval Nestabilities set.  Then I cut a red oval using the largest oval of the Large Oval set.  Mount the bells oval on the red oval.

I stamped the sentiment in green on the scrap of white paper, and punched it out.

Assembly

The wide printed paper panel is first, followed by the long narrow one.  The bells on the oval are mounted on the red oval, then added to the card.

I added the trimmed bell over the full image, using foam dots.  The sentiment is mounted last, also using foam dots.

Hope this kicks off the season for you - Thanks for stopping by!
