Basket of Flowers

Inspiration

Welcome to another Heartfelt Creations' Wednesday! February in Texas can sure be a lot like spring, and this week is proving it! Dallas will be 75 degrees today, and 80 tomorrow! Along that spring-time theme, the Floral Cross Collection provides lots of images to put you in a spring state of mind. Today, I'm sharing a basket bursting with Clematis bloooms. I found the basket idea on Creations by Patti. I've drawn a template to assist you in creating one - it's really pretty easy.

Don't forget - HC has a design team call going on right now (details are HERE). Heartfelt Creations is a fabulous company to work with - supportive and generous! If you are interested in being part of a wonderful sisterhood of crafters, I encourage you to apply.

BASKET

Cut three pieces of brown card stock with these measurements: 5 1/2" x 5 1/2" (basket), 3 1/4" x 3 1/2" (lid), and 3/4" x 7 1/2" (handle). Stamp all three with the basketweave background using matching brown ink.

BasketTemplate

Using the 5 1/2" square piece, score at 5/8", 1 1/4", and 1 7/8" from each end. Turn the square 90 degrees, and score it at 1 3/4" from each end. Cut on the 5/8", 1 1/4", and 1 7/8" score lines in up to the 1 3/4" score line all the way around the card. On the wide middle area, measure 1/2" in from each scoreline, and cut diagonally into the inside corner (see the template). Throw away the parts you clip out.

Fold along all the score lines. Gather the clipped card stock on one side, making sure the top edge of the basket is straight, and punch a hole in the top center of the side. Do the same on the other side. Use glue dots to hold the layers together, then slip a brad through each hole, but don't open the prongs yet.

BasketLidTemplate

LID AND HANDLE

Using the 3 1/4" x 3 1/2" piece, score the long edge at 1/2" along each side. Turn the card 90 degrees, and score at 1 1/2" from each end. Cut out the rectangles from each corner - the lid will have two tabs. Punch a hole in the center of each tab.

Using the 3/4" x 7 1/2" strip and the Sew Ribbon tool, punch along the handle. Thread the ribbon through the handle and secure the ribbon on each end with tape. Punch a hole in the center of each end of the handle.

Pull the brad out of one side of the basket, and push it through the handle, then the tab on the lid, then one side of the basket. Open the prongs on the inside of the basket. Do the same on the other side. Tie a double-loop bow and attach it above the brad.

FLOWERS

Stamp flowers on white paper in black ink, and use the matching dies to cut them out. Use a yellow gelato to partially color the petals, and blend with your finger. Use a damp watercolor brush and orange gelato ink to lightly add some color to the petals. Use the paper piercer to punch 2 holes in the center of each flower. Put a piece of wire about 6" long through the holes to form the stem, and twist it to hold the flower. Cover the wire in the center of the blossom with orange Stickles.

LEAVES

Stamp the leaf image in green ink on green card stock. Cut out with the matching dies.

ASSEMBLY

Put a piece of styrofoam inside the basket. Use the wire stems to stick the flowers into the styrofoam, so they look like they are bursting out of the basket. Add the leaves, using a straight pin into the styrofoam to hold them in place.

New Home Congrats

Inspiration

This is the last card I had on the Heartfelt Creations blog this week. The nice folks at CropStop sent the HC design team embossing folders by Couture Creations - mine is the "Replacements" design. One of the cool things about these folders is that there is an opening along the fold line of the folder about 2" wide. It lets you emboss a long strip of paper simply by moving the paper through the slit and running it through the machine again. Pretty neat!

I have a friend who buys houses and fixes them up to rent or sell. All the gears made me think about his tool box and tools he takes everywhere as he works on multiple projects. So I combined the gears on the embossing folder with the "Sprightly Sprockets" dies from Spellbinders, and the new home sentiments from the Chateau Gate Collection with a door image from the Artistic Gatefold Collection.

Cut a 2" x 5" strip of yellow card stock, and emboss it with the Replacements embossing folder. Sponge yellow ink over the embossed shapes. Mount the strip across the bottom part of the card front.

GEARS

Cut/emboss the largest sprocket dies, and one of the small sprockets using yellow card stock. Before removing the die cuts from the dies, sponge the exposed areas with yellow ink. Mount the large sprocket die cut in the upper left corner of the card front. Stamp the sentiment lines in purple ink inside the large sprocket directly on the patterned paper. Glue metal gears around the card.

DOOR

Stamp the door in green ink on green card stock, and trim closely. Glue the small sprocket die cut to the center of the door, and one of the metal gears in the center of the yellow sprocket. Mount the door to the front of the card using foam squares.

Church Invitation

Inspiration

This is my second Heartfelt Creations card this week (I have 4 on the Heartfelt Creations blog).Be sure to come back every day through Saturday to see all the cards with instructions, as always.

I love the chapel images in the the last two HC releases. This one is from the Chateau Gate Collection combined with the crosses from the Floral Cross Collection. I thought it would make a pretty wedding or Christening invitation. I used a monochromatic color scheme - I think it turned out to be quite elegant!

Color with COPIC markers. I used these colors:

  • Roses: RV63, RV66, RV69
  • Leaves: G24, G29

A Valentine for My Husband

Inspiration

I'm late posting Valentine's cards - I made 3 special cards this year (not my usually stack!) - so you will see 3 extra posts this week! I'm starting today with the card I made for my DH, Joe. He's a dancer (West Coast Swing), so I always like to make cards with a dance or music theme. This one was fun - and I really like the black sparkle embossing powder from Sweet Stamps for the dancers image.

Sew Easy Fancy Floss (We R Memory Keepers)
Black Sparkle embossing powder (Sweet Stamps)
Heat Gun
Tape (Scotch)
Scissors
ATG (3M)
Scor-Pal
Rotary Trimmer (Fiskars)

Instructions

BASE CARD and MAT LAYER

Cut a piece of blue card stock measuring 7" x 10", score it at 5", and fold. Cut the designer paper so that the swirl pattern is in one corner, and the piece measures 4 7/8" x 6 7/8". Mount this on the card front with the swirls in the lower right corner.

CHARMS

Tie pieces of the sparkly floss to each heart charm. Use a glue dot to hold the heart charm where you want it on the card, and tape the top of the string to the card. Make sure the top of the string will be under the heart when you mount it on the card.

DANCERS

Stamp the dancer image with Versamark ink on white card stock. Heat emboss with black sparkle embossing powder. Trim the image with a narrow margin around the edges. Cut/emboss a medium scalloped heart from blue paper, adhere a matching Nestabling heart sticker. Mount over the strings of the heart charms, using foam squares. Mount the trimmed dancers image over the heart center using foam squares.

SENTIMENT

Cut/emboss a fancy tag from the same blue card stock. Stamp the sentiment in black ink in the center of the tag. Adhere a matching Nestabling sticker, and mount in the lower center of the card front.

JoesValentine2

INSIDE

On the inside, cut and mount the same mat layer as you did on the front, except now put the swirls in the upper left corner. Cut/emboss a smaller scalloped heart, and stamp the sentiment in black ink on the heart. Because my sentiment fit better by placing it on the right of the heart instead of centered, I stamped some tiny hearts with blue ink that matches the card stock. Mount this on the upper right of the card inside. Cut and emboss a matching tag and mount at the bottom of the inside - it doesn't give you a lot of space to write much more than "I love you", but I think that's all you need!

MAT LAYER

Cut/emboss pink card stock using the largest Lattice Rectangle die. Cut a piece of glossy white card stock measuring 4 1/4" x 5 1/2". Color this with alcohol inks using a felt applicator. Instructions

BASE CARD

Using the 6" Grand Scalloped Square die, cut/emboss 2 squares of dark turquoise textured card stock. On one of the squares, score one edge about 1/2" in. Fold along the score line, then adhere the folded edge to the back of the other square. This forms the base card.

MAT

Use the next smalled Grand Scalloped Square die to cut/emboss a piece of patterned paper. Tie a double-loop bow on a strip of ribbon, and mount the ribbon and bow onto right side of the mat layer.

CROSS

Cut/emboss the cross die cut from the smooth turquoise paper. Stamp the cross image twice on white card stock in black ink. Color one cross completely using COPIC markers. I used these colors:

  • Cross: BG11, BG13
  • Flowers: Y13, Y17
  • Leaves: G14

Color the three main flowers on the other cross using the same shades. Cut the cross and flowers out, trimming closely. Spritz the cross and flowers with glimmer mist, and let them dry completely. Glue the shaded cross to the die cut, and mount the cross to the front of the card using 3-D foam squares. Shape the three individual flowers with the blossom tool kit, then glue to the cross on the matching flower images. Finish with a drop of Cantaloupe liquid pearls in the center of each flower.
