Christmas Gift Card Holders

Merry Christmas Eve!

I've "stamped my fingers off" this December! I counted everything, and between Thanksgiving and today, I stamped and assembled 215 cards. Guess what? I'm tired! LOL. I'm writing my blogs for the weekend ahead of time, and I'm not stamping all weekend. Well, unless I get a really fun stamp or tool for Christmas, or unless I get some free time, or unless...... well, you know me, I'll probably end up stamping something.

My blog today is pictures only - I posted the instructions for this simple gift card holder in this October post, and as I said back in October, we always end up needing a few holders for gift cards. And I made some for a customer, too. So here are pics of the 9 designs - I made 4 of each. The papers are mostly Stampin' Up, and Paper Studio. The stamps are Stampin' Up, Hampton Art, and Heartfelt Creations. And my craft room was an absolute mess when I was done because I used every kind of marker, glitter, adhesive, ribbon, etc., and didn't put anything away as I went (another reason I'm not stamping for a couple of days).

Anyway, enjoy the pics, and have a wonderful Christmas Eve!

Adhesive Transfer Gun
Rotary Trimmer (Fiskars)

Instructions

BASE CARD

Cut a piece of light green cardstock, measuring 7" x 10", score at 5", and fold.

MAT LAYERS

Cut a piece of burgundy cardstock measuring 4 1/2" x 6 5/8". Cut a piece of patterned paper measuring 3 1/2" x 6 1/2". Mount the patterned paper on the left most side of the burgundy paper, leaving a small border on the left, and a wider border on the right.

Stamp the Christmas sentiment in burgundy ink in the upper third of the patterned paper.

Stamp the holly leaf with the swirl in burgundy ink in the lower third of the patterned paper. Enhance these images with a Clear Star Gelly Roll pen. Stamp the holly leaf again using green ink on light green paper, cut it out, and glue it over the burgundy stamped leaf.

Mount a glittery strip of ribbon diagonally across the lower portion of the mat layers, then mount the layers onto the card front, again leaving a small border at the left, and a larger border on the right.

HOLLY BORDER

Cut/emboss the holly accent border using light green paper. Use a sponge to apply green ink before removing the paper from the die. Trim the die cut pattern to fit the mat layers. Use the dries clear glue to mount the border along the edge of the patterned paper. Enhance the darker green areas with a clear SPICA pen. Use burgundy Stickles for the circle at the base of each group of three leaves.

POINSETTIA

Stamp three poinsettia images using Versamark ink on rose paper, and heat emboss with tranlucent burgundy embossing glitter. Be careful not to overheat - too much heat will flatten the color and sparkle.

Cut out the flowers, and trim into the center of each flower around the whole petals. Bend the five whole petals up, and leave the partial petals flat. Glue the largest poinsettia to the front of the card using Zip-Dry glue so that it covers the intersection of the large holly leaf, the ribbon and the holly border.

Mount the medium poinsettia in the center of the largest using a foam square, and the smallest into the center of the medium blossom using another foam square. Finish with three large light pink and three small dark pink adhesive gems in the center of the poinsettia.

Poinsettia Gift Box

Inspiration

Welcome to another Heartfelt Creations Wednesday! Just in case you're wondering where the November release is, we're doing a special release on Black Friday next week and it's one worth waiting for. There's a "sneak peek", along with the weekly dose of beauty and creativity from the design team on Heartfelt Creations blog!

The holidays are upon us, and if you're like me, you want your gifts to show you've spent some time and special work on the creations you give. Paper mache boxes are perfect for decorating, and Heartfelt Creations stamps are great for adding flowers and flourishes! This one is decorated for Christmas in traditional red and green, with the Petite Poinsettia PreCut Set.

Poinsettia Gift Box

Note: Finished box size: approximately 6" x 6"

Paper

Christmas Cocoa Specialty (SU!)4" x 12" (2 pieces)
Real Red (SU!)8 1/2" x 11"
Victorian B&T New England Ivy (CTMH)7" x 7", and
4" x 4"
Stamper's Select White (Papertrey Ink)4" x 4"

Ink

Versamark (Tsukineko)

Stamps

HCPC 3415: Petite Poinsettia PreCut Set (Heartfelt Creations)

Accessories

Paper Mache Box (Hobby Lobby)
HCD 711: Decorative Dutch Iris Die (Heartfelt Creations)
Layered Poinsettia Shapeabilities (Spellbinders)
Labels 1 Grand Nestabilities (Spellbinders)
Big Shot Pro (Sizzix)
White embossing powder (Sweet Stamps)
Moss Tinsel Embossing Powder (Creations Unlimited)
Heat Gun
Liquid Pearls (Ranger)
Ribbon (Michaels)
Modge Podge glue
Zip-Dry Glue
Scissors (Cutter Bee)
Rotary Trimmer (Fiskars)

Instructions

BOX BOTTOM

Cut two 4" x 12" strips of red/white flocked paper. Apply Modge Podge glue to the outside of the box and adhere the flocked paper to cover the sides of the box. The paper is wider than the box sides, so clip the paper at the corners of the box, and apply Modge Podge to glue the paper as you fold it under the bottom of the box and to the inside of the box.

Cut a 4" x 4" square of solid red paper to cover the bottom of the box and glue it in place to hold the edges of the paper in place under the box. Set the box aside to let it dry.

BOX LID

Cut a sheet of green paper measuring 7" x 7". Apply Modge Podge glue to the outside of the box lid and adhere the green paper to cover the lid. Clip the paper at the corners of the lid, and apply Modge Podge to the sides of the lid, and glue the paper down to cover the sides of the lid. Use Zip-Dry glue to adhere ribbon around the edge of the lid. Set the lid aside to let it dry.

POINSETTIAS

Stamp 2 of each size of the poinsettia blossoms on red paper using embossing ink, and heat emboss with white powder. Cut them all out with the matching Shapeabilities dies.

Stamp 4 leaves on green paper using embossing ink, and heat emboss with moss tinsel powder. Cut them out with the matching Shapeabilities die.

Cut/emboss 2 flourishes using the die from the Dutch Iris die set and white card stock.

From red card stock cut/emboss the smallest Label 1 Grand Nestabilities die.

Glue the red Label die cut onto the box lid. Adhere a white flourish in two corners. Glue the poinsettias in the crook of the flourishes - "scrunch" the petals slightly to give them a little more 3-D look. Finish the poinsettias with a drop of Opal Liquid Pearls in the centers. Fold the leaves slightly in the middle, and glue them under the poinsettias.

Merry Christmas Snowman

Inspiration

Welcome to another Heartfelt Wednesday! Here's a simple little Christmas card I made for the CAS-ual Friday challenge - my first time to play along. The challenge was "over the edge" - to create a "Clean And Simple" card with a design element that goes over the edge of the card. My card has HC's jolly snowman "over the edge" as he says "Merry Christmas"! Don't forget to head over to the Heartfelt Creations blog to check out today's post with all of the lovely creations by the design team members.

Instructions

BASE CARD

Start with a piece of red card stock measuring 6 1/2" x 9", score at 4 1/2", and fold. Cut a piece of designer paper measuring 4" x 6", and mount on the front of the card.

SENTIMENT

Cut/emboss an oval from green cardstock. Stamp the sentiment in matching green ink. Mount on the left area of the card front.

IMAGE

Stamp the snowman image on white card stock twice. On one of the images, cut out just the cardinal using the matching die. Using the same image, cover the snowman face with sticky tape sheet, and cover in microfine glitter. Cut out the snowman face. Color the eyes, nose, and mouth with a Pitch Black SPICA pen. Cut out the second snowman image entirely. Color with COPIC markers:

  • Cardinal - R46, R59
  • Scarf - Y93, Y97
  • Leaves/Berries: Y93, Y97, R89
  • Hat band: Y93, Y97
  • Hat: E21, E23, E27

Enhance the holly leaves and berries with Garnet and Olive SPICA pens. Enhance the scarf, the hat, and the cardinal with a Clear SPICA pen.

Glue the full snowman image in the lower right of the card front so that it overlaps the green oval and the cardinal hangs off the right edge of the card. Mount the glittered snowman face over the snowman face. Add the die cut cardinal using foam squares.

Let It Snow!

Inspiration

Here's a snowy winter scene using stamps from the Classic Christmas Collection from Heartfelt Creations, and some "Sparkly Fluff" I found in a bargain basket at a local store. It's kind of fun for snow (but there was a lot of white stuff sticking to everything!). I used the tree images from the Magnificent Spruce Trees set to make a Christmas scene, but they are so versatile - they'd be great for a lake scene or any serene nature view.

Let it Snow

Ingredients

Note: Finished card size is 5" x 7"

Paper

Cranberry Crisp (SU!)7" x 10"; scored at 5", and
1 1/2" x 3"

Inks

Handsome Hunter (SU!)
Versamark (Tsukineko)

Stamps

HCPC 3432: Magnificent Spruce Trees PreCut Set (Heartfelt Creations)
HCPC 3345: Snowflake Medley PreCut Set (Heartfelt Creations)

Accessories

Flower & Flourish edge punch (EK Success)
Clear embossing powder
Heat gun
Quickie glue pen (Sakura)
Sparkly Fluff (Our Craft Lounge)
Swarovski Hot-fix Jewels (Creative Notions)
iRock Hot-fix toll (Imaginisce)

3-D Foam Squares (Scrapbook Adhesives)
Zip-Dry glue
ATG (Scotch)
Scissors (Cutter Bee)
Rotary trimmer (Fiskars)

Instructions

BASE CARD

Start with a piece of red card stock measuring 7" x 10", and score it at 5".

GREEN MAT LAYER

Cut a piece of dark green cardstock measuring 4 7/8" x 6 7/8". Punch one long edge with the edge punch. Stamp the small cluster of trees in matching dark green ink across the layer. Use the glue pen to line branches and the ground line of the trees, and cover with the Sparkly fluff - press it down, then shake off the excess.

LARGE TREE

Ink the large tree using Versamark ink then dark green ink, and stamp on dark green paper. Emboss with clear embossing powder. Trim it closely. Use the glue pen to line branches and the ground line of the tree, and cover with the Sparkly fluff - press it down, then shake off the excess. Attach the hot-fix jewels randomly around the tree. Mount the large tree on the front of the card with foam squares.

SENTIMENT

Stamp the sentiment in dark green ink on white paper. Trim it closely. Glue it onto the small piece of red cardstock, and trim it, too. Glue this in the upper left corner of the card front.

Silent Night, Holy Night

Inspiration

The Nativity Scene stamp set from the Heartfelt Creations' Classic Christmas Collection is a sweet image that reminds me of childhood plays at church. One of my most vivid memories was one year I was chosen to be the arch-angel singing praises to the newborn king and I was SO excited. Unfortunately, I caught the flu a couple of days before the pageant, but would not give up the role, even when I was running a fever. Uncharacteristically, my parents let me go and my Dad stood in the wings - when I got too dizzy he came and picked me up and carried me to the car and home and bed. This image captures that classic Nativity scene - the child in the manger on a silent, holy night.

This card uses the Grand Labels dies to create a shaped card. Instead of cutting the card in one piece, I cut 2 labels and scored one near the top to create a small flap that adheres to the back of the first label and creates the card. I liked this approach on this one because it lets the entire label shape be embossed for the front of the card.

Silent Night Holy Night

Ingredients

Note: Finished card size is 5" x 7"

Paper

Scarlett Jewel (Papertrey Ink)5 1/2" x 8 1/2" (2 pieces)
Vintage Ivory (Papertrey Ink)5 1/2" x 8 1/2"

Inks

HCPC 3419: Holiday Poinsettia Candle PreCut Set (Heartfelt Creations)

Large Labels Grand Nestabilities (Spellbinders)
Big Shot Pro (Sizzix)
COPIC markers (Imagination International)
SPICA pen (Imagination International)
ATG (Scotch)
Scor-Pal
Scissors

Instructions

BASE CARD

Cut/emboss 2 red panels using the second-smallest Labels Grand die. On one of the panels, score a line just below the curve of the corners at one end. Adhere this to the back of the other panel to form the card.

IMAGE

Cut/emboss an ivory panel using the smallest Labels Grand die. Use a gold SPICA pen to color the embossed edge of the panel. Stamp the image in brown ink at one end of the panel. Color with COPIC markers. I used these colors:

  • DUCKS: Y00, Y02, YR65
  • CHICKENS: YR000, YR14
  • DONKEY: W0, W2, W5, R20, E39
  • CALF: E30, E35, E37, E93
  • SHEEP: C0 C2, 0
  • DOG: E70, E74
  • MANGER: Y13, Y15, Y17, E55, E57
  • BABY: E00, SPICA gold

SENTIMENT

Stamp the sentiment in brown ink on ivory card stock. Cut/emboss the sentiment using a Labels die. Use the gold SPICA pen to color the embossed edge of the panel, and mount it above the nativity scene.

Don't miss the announcment of the new team, and the last posts of creations by the April-October 2011 team on the Heartfelt Creations blog today.

I have several cards on today's blog, so I'll have detailed blog posts here today through Friday.

Here's the first one - a "double Z-fold card". There's a great tutorial on Splitcoast stampers for this technique, including a video.

Christmas Gift Card Holder

Inspiration

It seems that every Christmas at the last minute I end up giving gift cards - either at work, or for a last-minute party hostess gift, or that teen-age nephew for whom I can never quite pick out the right thing. But, I like to think a hand-crafted gift card holder makes a gift card a little bit more personal. This one is really easy to make - The gift card slips in the slot in the middle panel, and then you tie a bow to close it.

Gift Card Holder

Ingredients

Note: Finished card size is 3" x 4 1/4"

Paper

Real Red (SU!)4 1/4" x 11"; score at 3", 5 1/2", and 8", and
2" x 2"
Holly patterned paper (the Paper Patch)5 1/4" x 5 1/4", and
2 3/4" x 4"
Stamper's Select White (Papertrey Ink)2" x 4"

Inks

Memento Rich Cocoa (Tsukineko)

Stamps

HCPC 3422: Poinsettia Cheer Bells PreCut Set (Heartfelt Creations)
HCPC 3423: Scenic Christmas Bells PreCut Set (Heartfelt Creations)

Accessories

HCD 707: Falling Leaves Die (Heartfelt Creations)
Petite Scalloped Circle - Large Nestabilities (Spellbinders)
Word window punch (SU!)
Ribbon (the Ribbon Retreat)
Mark-It Ultrafine permanent markers (BIC)
SPICA pen (Imagination International)
Scissors
Zip-Dry glue
ATG (Scotch)
Scor-Pal
Rotary Trimmer (Fiskars)

Instructions

HOLDER

Cut a piece of red card stock measuring 4 1/4" x 11". Cut the patterned paper to 4" x 10 3/4". Mount the patterned paper onto the red paper. Score at 3", 5 1/2", and 8". Fold in a "W" shape - the 5 1/2" score is the middle "mountain" fold, and the 3" and 8" scores are the "valley" folds.Hold the middle fold together, and use the punch along the fold to create a hole for the gift card, about 3 1/2" long. Apply adhesive to the back of the middle fold and press together.Cut a length of ribbon about 20" long. Apply a thin line of glue horizontally across the front of the holder. Fold the ribbon in half and mount the one side near the fold to the line of glue. Apply a thin line of glue horizontally across the back of the holder. Mount the other side of the ribbon to the line of glue, leaving a little free right at the back of the holder.

FRONT

Cut a piece of patterned paper measuring 2 3/4" x 4" and mount on the front of the card. Cut/emboss a 2" circle from red card stock using a scalloped circle die. Stamp the Merry Christmas bell in brown ink on white paper. Cut it out using the small bell die. Color the bell with the BIC markers, and embellish the script with a gold SPICA pen. Mount the bell onto the red circle, and mount this in the center of the front of the card.

INSIDE

Cut/emboss a 2" circle from red card stock using a scalloped circle die. Stamp the To/From bell in brown ink on white paper. Cut it out using the small bell die. Color the bell with the BIC markers, and embellish the to/from with the gold SPICA pen. Mount the bell onto the red circle, and mount this just over the slot in the middle of the holder.

Glittering Ornament

Inspiration

Here's a Christmas card that uses stamp sets from the Christmas Cheer Collection and the Cardinal Family/Holly Berry Collection from Heartfelt Creations. Wild Wasabi (SU!)

Scissors
Zip-Dry glue
ATG
Scor-Pal
Rotary Trimmer (Fiskars)

Instructions

BASE CARD

Cut a piece of red card stock measuring 5 1/2" x 11", score at 5 1/2", and fold.

MAT

Cut a piece of patterned paper measuring 5 1/4" x 5 1/4". Use the pine branch stamp and green ink to stamp the branches across the top of the mat. For the branches on the sides of the mat, use the "stamp off" technique to get a lighter image - stamp the branch on scrap paper first, then on the mat layer.Mount a strip of ribbon across the lower edge of the mat. Mount the mat on the front of the card.

ORNAMENT

Stamp the ornament. Stamp the pine branch in green ink on ivory card stock twice. Cut these images out. Arrange together, and mount on the front of the card using foam squares. Tie a bow, and mount it above the ornament.

Merry Christmas Ornaments

Inspiration

Here's a pink and green Christmas card made with stamps from the Christmas Cheer Collection and lots of glitter. My friends will tell you I'm not a "glitter girl", but I'm learning! I really like the PK Glitz embossing glitter - it makes it easy to use glitter in just the right places. And, of course, the SPICA pens give you the ability to add just a touch of sparkle just where you want it.

As always, the Heartfelt Creations blog has more creative inspiration for you - be sure to check out the design team's efforts this week.

Adhesive gems (Recollections)
Gelly Roll Clear Star pen (Sakura)
3-D Foam Squares (3L)
ATG (Scotch)
Scor-Pal
Scissors
Rotary trimmer (Fiskars)

Instructions

CARD

Cut the base card from burgundy cardstock measuring 8 1/2" x 9", score at 4 1/4", and fold. Cut a mat layer from the designer paper to 4 3/8" x 8 7/8" and adhere to the front of the card. I used my Gelly Roll Clear Star pen to add some sparkle to the background paper before adding anything else to the card - just follow the outlines of the swirls on the paper - it really adds a nice touch.

ORNAMENTS

Stamp the smallest ornament image on white paper 3 times, using Versamark ink. Heat emboss with the embossing glitter. Cut the ornaments out using the matching ornament die. Cut/emboss the long holly border from green paper. Before removing the die cut from the die, use a sponge and green ink to color the open areas on the die cut. Carefully pull the holly trim line from the die (Note - it can be a little tricky to pull the paper out of the die! I've found that putting a sheet of waxed paper between the die and my cardstock before I run it through the machine makes a huge difference). Mount across the top of the card front. Use foam squares to mount the ornaments as if they are attached to the holly. Decorate the holly and the ornaments with adhesive gems.

SENTIMENT

Cut a ribbon tag from white cardstock, and stamp the sentiment in green ink in the center of the tag. Using a sponge, distress the edges with gold pigment ink. Thread ribbon through the tag. Mount a strip of double sided tape across the lower portion of the card, and mount the ribbon and tag across the tape.

FINAL TOUCHES

Cut/emboss the small holly corners from green paper. Before removing the die cuts from the dies, use a sponge and green ink to color the open areas on the die cuts. Carefully pull the holly corners from the dies. Mount around the sentiment tag. Decorate the holly and the ornaments with adhesive gems. Use the Gelly Roll pen to enhance the holly, and the sentiment.
