Vintage Carriage

Inspiration

Hello and Happy Friday!!!!! I'm so glad to see this week end - big project at work with lots of hours all week! And, best of all, I'm headed to craft classes Saturday and Sunday taught by TIM HOLTZ IN PERSON!!! Yea!

This is my third Heartfelt Creations card this week - they keep getting simpler and simpler, don't they? This card probably has the shortest list of accessories I've ever published. The card is simply layers of paper, and a single silhouette image. When I found this patterned paper, I knew it was perfect for this carriage - and in this case, simple is good!

Spring Bird

Inspiration

Good Sunday to you and Happy Tax Day! LOL - well, I guess you actually have one more day....

Here's an easy card that I made using a sketch from a sketch group I belong to called CardSketchesByZacksNana. We're just a small group of ladies that trade cards once a month and the cool part is that we have friends now in Austrailia and Canada and the US! Lots of fun.

IMAGE

Cut/emboss a large scalloped oval from pink card stock. Cut/emboss a plain oval just smaller than the pink oval. Mount the white oval onto the pink oval.

Stamp the image with gray ink at one end of the oval. Cut the oval just to the left of the image, and mount on the left side of the card.

Bow Trim

Cut a piece of gray card stock measuring 1 3/4" x 4 1/4", and a piece of pink card stock measuring 1 1/2" x 4 1/4". Mount the pink strip onto the gray. Mount a strip of white ribbon around strip length-wise, putting a twist in the ribbon at the point you will mount the bow. This creates the illusion that you tied the bow around the strip.

Tie a pretty bow using the peg bow maker, trim the ends, and glue the bow over the twist in the ribbon.

Don't forget to visit the Heartfelt Creations blog to see all the beautiful creations from the design team. It's only a few more weeks until a new team is chosen, so be sure to have your input counted by voting for your favorite 5 designers!

BACKGROUND LAYER

Cut a piece of glossy card stock measuring 5" x 7". I made this tag using the "Alcohol Agates" technique from Tim Holtz. Put a piece of felt on the blending tool, and add drops of the alcohol inks (colors listed above). Tap the colors onto the glossy card stock until it is mostly covered. Now add some blending solution to the felt, and more color if you want to, and cover the card again. You can do this over and over until you get the look you want. Stamp the small horse image using black pigment ink randomly across the background panel. Dry with the heat tool. Trim the panel with a deckled blade to measure 4 7/8" x 6 7/8".

IMAGE

Stamp the image on watercolor paper using black pigment ink, and heat emboss with clear embossing powder. Color the image using a watercolor brush and distress inks (colors are listed above). Cut/emboss green card stock using the smallest Grand Label 11 die. Cut/emboss the image using the largest Label 11 die. Mount the image on the green label, and add the mounted image to the front of the card using foam squares.

SENTIMENT

Stamp the sentiment on yellow card stock using black pigment ink, and heat emboss with clear embossing powder. Mount on the upper left corner, tilting it slightly, with foam squares.

MAT LAYER

Cut the patterned paper to measure , and mount it on the short front panel.

Stamp the image onto white card stock measuring 2" x 3". Color with COPIC markers. I used these colors:

  • Cake: BG49
  • Icing: YR12, Teal and Orange SPICAs
  • Candle: G21, Mint SPICA
  • Flame: Lemon SPICA

Mount the image panel onto mat layers of green (2 1/8" x 3 1/8") and teal (2 1/4" x 3 1/4"). Mount the image on the card front, centering it near the top of the front panel.

SENTIMENT

Cut green card stock to measure 4 1/8" x 5 3/8". Stamp the sentiment in teal ink in the upper right corner - this will show even when the card is closed. Mount the green sentiment panel on the inside of the card.

LATCH

Cut a small piece of teal card stock, about 1/2" x 1 1/4", and use glue on each end to mount it vertically near the bottom of the card front. Mount a piece of patterned paper (3/8" x 4") onto a piece of teal paper (1/2" x 4"). Slide it through the latch across the exposed part of the inside of the card until there is about 1 1/4" to the right of the edge of the card. Fold the paper strip (it may help to score it before you fold) and glue it to the back of the card. Note - I use Zip Dry instead of my ATG for the latch and closing strip to ensure these parts will not detach from the card.

Making History

Inspiration

I picked up this stylish lady image at one of the stamp shows in Dallas earlier this year. It really is fun! I immediately thought it would be perfect for a friend's birthday this week, and thought how versatile it would be if I used paper piecing - a new patterned paper equals a new dress!

After I made it, I found that the Corrosive Challenge Blog has a paper piecing challenge this week called "Give Piece a Chance" - how cute!

I'm entering this one in the Craft Your Passion challenge, too - it's an "anything goes" week.

Put a glue dot on the knot and adhere it to the panel above the sentiment toward the right side of the panel. Use tape to secure the ends on the back of the panel. Mount the sentiment layer on the front of the card.

IMAGE

Ink the leaf portion of the tree stamp with green ink. Use the "rock and roll" method with the stamp to ink the outer edges of the tree with brown ink. Use a brown marker to color the trunk, and a green marker to blend a little where the 2 colors meet. Stamp the image onto a vanilla panel measuring 3 3/4" x 4". Stipple around the outer edges with dark blue ink. Cut the image into exact thirds (1 1/4" each).

Cut a piece of dark blue card stock measuring 4 1/4" x 4 1/2". Mount the 3 panels of the image onto the blue card stock, then mount the image onto the card front.

Basket of Flowers

Inspiration

Welcome to another Heartfelt Creations' Wednesday! February in Texas can sure be a lot like spring, and this week is proving it! Dallas will be 75 degrees today, and 80 tomorrow! Along that spring-time theme, the Floral Cross Collection provides lots of images to put you in a spring state of mind. Today, I'm sharing a basket bursting with Clematis bloooms. I found the basket idea on Creations by Patti. I've drawn a template to assist you in creating one - it's really pretty easy.

Don't forget - HC has a design team call going on right now (details are HERE). Heartfelt Creations is a fabulous company to work with - supportive and generous! If you are interested in being part of a wonderful sisterhood of crafters, I encourage you to apply.

BASKET

Cut three pieces of brown card stock with these measurements: 5 1/2" x 5 1/2" (basket), 3 1/4" x 3 1/2" (lid), and 3/4" x 7 1/2" (handle). Stamp all three with the basketweave background using matching brown ink.

BasketTemplate

Using the 5 1/2" square piece, score at 5/8", 1 1/4", and 1 7/8" from each end. Turn the square 90 degrees, and score it at 1 3/4" from each end. Cut on the 5/8", 1 1/4", and 1 7/8" score lines in up to the 1 3/4" score line all the way around the card. On the wide middle area, measure 1/2" in from each scoreline, and cut diagonally into the inside corner (see the template). Throw away the parts you clip out.

Fold along all the score lines. Gather the clipped card stock on one side, making sure the top edge of the basket is straight, and punch a hole in the top center of the side. Do the same on the other side. Use glue dots to hold the layers together, then slip a brad through each hole, but don't open the prongs yet.

BasketLidTemplate

LID AND HANDLE

Using the 3 1/4" x 3 1/2" piece, score the long edge at 1/2" along each side. Turn the card 90 degrees, and score at 1 1/2" from each end. Cut out the rectangles from each corner - the lid will have two tabs. Punch a hole in the center of each tab.

Using the 3/4" x 7 1/2" strip and the Sew Ribbon tool, punch along the handle. Thread the ribbon through the handle and secure the ribbon on each end with tape. Punch a hole in the center of each end of the handle.

Pull the brad out of one side of the basket, and push it through the handle, then the tab on the lid, then one side of the basket. Open the prongs on the inside of the basket. Do the same on the other side. Tie a double-loop bow and attach it above the brad.

FLOWERS

Stamp flowers on white paper in black ink, and use the matching dies to cut them out. Use a yellow gelato to partially color the petals, and blend with your finger. Use a damp watercolor brush and orange gelato ink to lightly add some color to the petals. Use the paper piercer to punch 2 holes in the center of each flower. Put a piece of wire about 6" long through the holes to form the stem, and twist it to hold the flower. Cover the wire in the center of the blossom with orange Stickles.

LEAVES

Stamp the leaf image in green ink on green card stock. Cut out with the matching dies.

ASSEMBLY

Put a piece of styrofoam inside the basket. Use the wire stems to stick the flowers into the styrofoam, so they look like they are bursting out of the basket. Add the leaves, using a straight pin into the styrofoam to hold them in place.

Springtime Hugs

Inspiration

Another springtime card I designed for Heartfelt Creations. This one uses a sentiment from the Floral Cross Collection with stamps from last month's release, the Chateau Gate Collection. I love coloring flowers with COPIC markers, and this design let me play with 2 different kinds of flowers on the same card.

Instructions

BASE CARD and MAT LAYER

Cut a piece of green card stock measuring 7" x 10", score it at 5", and fold. Cut patterned paper to measure 4 1/2" x 6", and mount it at the top center of the card front. Cut/emboss two pink small long rectangles, and one larger yellow long rectangle. Trim one end of both pink rectangles so that the rectangles measure 3" in length. Trim one end of the yellow rectangle so that it measures 4" in length. Mount the yellow rectangle at the top center of the card front. Mount the pink rectangles on each side of the yellow rectangle.

SENTIMENT

Cut/emboss a small white deckled oval, stamp the sentiment in blue ink, and mount at the top of the yellow rectangle with foam squares.

FLOWERS

Cut/emboss three white deckled ovals. Stamp the roses on two of the ovals using black ink. Stamp the posies on the third oval using black ink. Stamp the flowers again on white card stock, and cut them out, trimming closely. Color the images with COPIC markers. I used these colors:

  • Leaves: G21
  • Roses: RV21, RV23
  • Posies: B91, B93
  • Vase: RV21, RV23
  • Water: B91, B93

Mount the rose ovals on the two pink rectangles, and the posie oval on the yellow rectangle. Use foam squares to mount the trimmed flowers over the matching images on the card.

Sunny Days

Inspiration

Happy Wednesday! It's time for more Heartfelt Creations designs. I was feeling inspired last weekend, so I have 4 cards on the Heartfelt Creations blog this week. Be sure to come back every day through Saturday to see all the cards with instructions, as always. Be sure to stop over at the HC blog too - the design team has outdone themselves!

Today's card is a birthday card I designed for one of my employees - I'm already in a springtime mood! The flowers from this month's Floral Cross Collection are so much fun to color.

Instructions

BASE CARD

Cut a piece of dark red card stock measuring 7" x 10", score it at 5", and fold. MAT: Cut a piece of patterned paper, measuring 4" x 6". Tape a strip of ribbon diagonally across the mat. Mount the mat with ribbon in the center of the card front.

SENTIMENT

Cut/emboss a decorative window diecut from red card stock. Before removing it from the die, use a sponge to apply Rose Inka Gold paint to the open areas in the die. Cut/emboss an oval from ivory card stock. Stamp the sentiment in matching red ink. Fit the oval inside the window die.

FLOWERS

Stamp the flower images on ivory card stock, and color with COPIC and SPICA markers. I used these colors:

  • Leaves: G21, G24
  • Blossoms: R11, R14, Y35, and Peach and Lemon SPICA pens

Entwine the smaller flower image in the decorative frame, then mount sentiment stack on the mat across the ribbon. Mount the large flower to the lower left of the framed sentiment. Finish by tying a bow, and gluing it on the ribbon where it exits from under the decorative frame.
