In Sympathy

Inspiration

This card was made for a co-worker who lost his father to cancer recently. It's based on sketch challenge 193 at Splitcoast Stampers, using Tim Holtz techniques for coloring the tag.

InSympathy

Ingredients

Note: finished card size is 5" x 7"

Stamps

Tim Holtz - Flutter (Stamper's Anonymous)
Tim Holtz - Papillion (Stamper's Anonymous)
Sympathy Sentiment (Heartfelt Creations)

Paper

Soft Suede (SU!)7" x 10", scored at 5", and
2 1/2" x 3"
Crushed Curry (SU!)1 1/2" x 7"
Bermuda Bay (SU!)1" x 4 1/4" (3 pieces)
Alla Prima (Prima)3/4" x 4 1/4" (3 pieces), and
2 1/2" x 3"
#5 Manilla Tag (Ranger)

Ink

Distress Ink (Ranger)
Jet Black Archival (Ranger)
Bermuda Bay (SU!)

Accessories

Lacy Oval Nestabilities (Spellbinders)
Classic Oval - Large Nestabilities (Spellbinders)
Grand Calibur (Spellbinders)
Ink Blending Tool (Ranger)
Fiber (unknown)
3-D Foam Squares (Scrapbook Adhesives)
ATG (3M)
Scor-Pal
Cutter Bee Scissors (EK Success)
Rotary Trimmer (Fiskars)

Instructions

BASE CARD

Start with a piece of brown card stock measuring 7" x 10", score at 5" and fold. Using black ink, and holding the butterfly stamp in your hand instead of on an acrylic block, randomly stamp various butterflies over the card front.

BACKGROUND LAYERS

Cut a strip of yellow card stock to 1 1/2" x 7", and mount vertically on the card front 3/4" from the left edge. Cut 3 strips of blue paper to 1" x 4 1/4", and 3 strips of patterned paper to 3/4" x 4 1/4". Mount each strip of patterned paper onto a blue strip, then mount horizontally on the front of the card.

TAG

I made this tag using the "Spritz & Flick" technique from Tim Holtz. First, using the blending tool cover the tag with colors. I used Tumbled Glass, Peeled Paint, and Wild Honey. When you have those blended the way you like them, add Brushed Corduroy around the edges of the tag. Now, spritz some water into your cupped hand, and flick droplets across the tag off your fingers. You can do a little or a lot.

When the tag is dry (you can dry them with a heat tool if you want to), stamp the image on both tags using black archival ink. Dry the image with a heat tool.

Tie fibers through the hole in the tag, then mount it on the front of the card using foam squares.

SENTIMENT

Stamp the sentiment in blue ink on patterned paper, and cut it out using a classic oval die. Cut/emboss a brown lacy oval. Mount the sentiment oval onto the brown oval, and mount on the card using foam squares.

You Made My Day

Inspiration

I designed this card using a sketch from a small sketch group I participate in. I needed a thank you for a co-worker who had sent me a lovely bouquet to thank me for working an 80-hour week to meet a deadline, so I made 2! The blue one went to the co-worker, and the rust-colored one went to the sketch group.

Instructions

BASE CARD and MAT

Start with base color card stock measuring 4 1/4" x 11, score at 5 1/2" and fold. Cut a piece of mat card stock to 4" x 5 1/4", and stamp "Thanks" randomly over it. Wrap the twine around the top portion of the mat, then mount the mat on the card front.

TAG

The distress layers are all made using a single tag, made using the "Spritz & Flick" technique from Tim Holtz. First, using the blending tool cover the tag with colors. When you have the colors blended the way you like them, add a shade of brown around the edges of the tag. Now, spritz some water into your cupped hand, and flick droplets across the tag off your fingers. You can do a little or a lot. When the tag is dry (you can dry them with a heat tool if you want to), cut the tag into 3 strips.

Trim left side strip to 5" long, and the right side strip to 4 3/4". Trim the middle piece to 3 7/8" long.

SENTIMENT

Size the image to be 5/8" in height. Print the sentiment image on ivory card stock and cut the sentiment out to measure 3/4" x 4".

ASSEMBLY

Adhere the left tag strip onto the card front about 1/2" from the bottom edge of the card. Add the sentiment strip above the bottom tag strip, then mount the right tag strip above the sentiment. Thread 3 pieces of twine through the hole in the middle tag strip. Mount the remaining center tag strip vertically across the mounted strips. Glue a gear only the top strip.

Good Sunday to you and Happy Tax Day! LOL - well, I guess you actually have one more day....

Here's an easy card that I made using a sketch from a sketch group I belong to called CardSketchesByZacksNana. We're just a small group of ladies that trade cards once a month and the cool part is that we have friends now in Austrailia and Canada and the US! Lots of fun.

Cut a piece of gray card stock measuring 5 1/2" x 8 1/2", score at 4 1/4", and fold. Cut a piece of patterned paper measuring 4 1/8" x 5 3/8", and mount on the front of the card.

IMAGE

Cut/emboss a large scalloped oval from pink card stock. Cut/emboss a plain oval just smaller than the pink oval. Mount the white oval onto the pink oval.

Stamp the image with gray ink at one end of the oval. Cut the oval just to the left of the image, and mount on the left side of the card.

Bow Trim

Cut a piece of gray card stock measuring 1 3/4" x 4 1/4", and a piece of pink card stock measuring 1 1/2" x 4 1/4". Mount the pink strip onto the gray. Mount a strip of white ribbon around strip length-wise, putting a twist in the ribbon at the point you will mount the bow. This creates the illusion that you tied the bow around the strip.

Tie a pretty bow using the peg bow maker, trim the ends, and glue the bow over the twist in the ribbon.

This is a fun birthday card I made using an OLD sketch challenge from Splitcoast Stampers. It is sketch challenge SCS32 (you can tell how old it is - they are on sketch 390!!). It's a cute card with a paper latch - really easy to make and looks great. I made this card for a nephew, although it is gender- and age-neutral. You could send it to anyone; everyone loves cupcakes!

Instructions

BASE CARD

Cut a piece of teal card stock measuring 5 1/2" x 8 1/2", score it at 4 1/4", and fold. Cut 1 1/8" off the long edge of one side of the card - this new short panel becomes the front of the card.

MAT LAYER

Cut the patterned paper to measure , and mount it on the short front panel.

IMAGE

Stamp the image onto white card stock measuring 2" x 3". Color with COPIC markers. I used these colors:

  • Cake: BG49
  • Icing: YR12, Teal and Orange SPICAs
  • Candle: G21, Mint SPICA
  • Flame: Lemon SPICA

Mount the image panel onto mat layers of green (2 1/8" x 3 1/8") and teal (2 1/4" x 3 1/4"). Mount the image on the card front, centering it near the top of the front panel.

SENTIMENT

Cut green card stock to measure 4 1/8" x 5 3/8". Stamp the sentiment in teal ink in the upper right corner - this will show even when the card is closed. Mount the green sentiment panel on the inside of the card.

LATCH

Cut a small piece of teal card stock, about 1/2" x 1 1/4", and use glue on each end to mount it vertically near the bottom of the card front. Mount a piece of patterned paper (3/8" x 4") onto a piece of teal paper (1/2" x 4"). Slide it through the latch across the exposed part of the inside of the card until there is about 1 1/4" to the right of the edge of the card. Fold the paper strip (it may help to score it before you fold) and glue it to the back of the card. Note - I use Zip Dry instead of my ATG for the latch and closing strip to ensure these parts will not detach from the card.

Stencil Brush
Ribbon (Michaels)
3-D Foam Squares (Scrapbook Adhesives)
ATG (3M)

Instructions

BASE CARD and MAT LAYER

Cut a piece of dark brown card stock measuring 7" x 10", score at 5" and fold. Cut the designer paper to 4 7/8" x 6 7/8" and mount on the card front.

CIRCLE CORNER

Cut/emboss a large plain circle from the dark brown card stock, and a large pinking circle from copper card stock. Mount the copper circle onto the brown circle. Mount the stacked circles onto the lower left corner of the card so that the edge of the circle aligns with the corner of the card. This causes some of the circle to hang over the 2 sides of the card. Flip the card over, and trim the excess circle, using the card as your guidelines.

RIBBON

Cut a strip of brown card stock measuring 1" x 7", and mount the ribbon onto the card stock strip, then mount the strip across the card front.

TREE IMAGE

Using the glue stamp pad, stamp the tree image onto an ivory card stock panel measuring 3 1/4" x 3 1/4". Cover with Metal Leaf flakes, and press, then brush off excess with a stencil brush. Mount the burnished image onto mats of copper card stock (3 3/8" x 3 3/8") and brown card stock (3 1/2" x 3 1/2"). Mount the image onto the card front.

SENTIMENT

Cut/emboss an ivory card stock oval, and stamp the Wish Big sentiment in dark brown ink onto the oval. Mount the sentiment onto the card front using foam squares.

Stamp the sentiment in Versamark ink on white paper, and emboss with silver embossing powder. Punch out with the Round Tab punch, and mount in the upper left corner with foam squares.

Thanks for stopping by, and again I wish you the very best in the coming new year!

Blue Birthday Bouquet

Inspiration

Watercolor crayons are one of the simplest way to learn how to blend colors, and when you use watercolor paper it's correctable - just add water! I keep a little bowl of water and a paper towel next to my work area and if I get too much color or go over a line, I can use a clean brush with water to clean up the area and blot it with the paper towel and start over. It's a great medium to work with.

Here's an easy little card that I used based on a old sketch challenge on Splitcoast Stampers (Sketch 232) and one of my favorite Stampin' Up! stamp sets ever, called In Full Bloom. I actually stamped it 4 times and painted all 4 images, and had 4 cards in no time!

BlueBirthdayBouquet

Ingredients

Paper

Baja Breeze (SU!)4 1/4" x 11"; scored at 5 1/2"
Baja Breeze DSP (SU!)1 1/2" x 5 1/2"
Cherry Cobbler (SU!)2" x 2"
More Mustard (SU!)2" x 2"
Watercolor paper (Canson)2 3/4" x 3 1/2"

Inks

Jet Black (StazOn)

Stamps

In Full Bloom (SU!)

Accessories

Watercolor Crayons (SU!)
Watercolor brush
Water
Post-It Notes
Scor-Pal
ATG (Scotch)
Scissors (Cutter Bee)
Rotary Trimmer (Fiskars)

Instructions

IMAGE

Stamp the large open flower in the center using black ink on the watercolor paper in the upper right corner. Stamp it on a post-it note, and cut it out and cover the image on the watercolor paper. Stamp the half-daisy image in black ink on each side of the center flower - it's ok if it goes off the edge of the paper. Add the stems and leaves.

Use the watercolor crayons and brush and water to color the images. I used heavy color around the edges of the image, then cleaned the brush and lightly dragged the color toward the center of each area. This is where you exercise your creativity - do what you like!

ASSEMBLY

Cut a piece of blue cardstock measuring 4 1/4" x 11", score at 5 1/2" and fold. Mount a strip of blue patterned paper measuring 1 1/2" x 5 1/2" across the center of the card front.

Cut 2" x 2" squares of red and yellow card stock. Adhere the watercolored image on the red square, and the yellow square, then mount the whole set on the right side of the front of the card.

Happy Graduation

Inspiration

I received an order for a December graduation card for a college grad, and had time this weekend to put it together. The image is a fun digital stamp from "Sassy Cheryl" I found doing a quick "graduation digital stamp" Google search. I used the Sketch Saturday Challenge #181 for the layout.

Instructions

BASE CARD

Cut a piece of blue card stock measuring 5 1/2" x 11", score at 5 1/2" and fold. Cut one piece of patterned paper measuring 2 3/8" x 5 1/4" and adhere across the bottom half of the card front. Cut one piece of another patterned paper measuring 2 3/8" x 2 3/8" and adhere in one corner of the top half of the card front. Cut a third piece of patterned paper measuring 2 3/8" x 2 3/8" and adhere in the remaining corner of the top half of the card front. Cut/emboss the smalled Grand big scalloped oval from blue paper and adhere on the left of the card front. Mount a strip of ribbon across the middle of the card, covering the seam in the paper. Tie a bow, in matching ribbon and mount to the right of the blue oval.

DIGITAL IMAGE

Size the digital image on your computer to measure 3.75" in height. Print the image on white card stock. I let mine sit for an hour or so to make sure the ink won't run when I color it. Color the image with COPIC markers. I used these colors:

  • Cap/Gown: C3, C5, C7, 100
  • Skirt/Shoes: B21, B23, B24
  • Scarf: R21, R24
  • Skin: E0000, E000, E01
  • Hair: Y38, E35, E37
  • Diplomas: Y21, Y28
  • Book: E09, E34, E37, E39

Enhance the tassel with the gold SPICA pen. Cut/emboss the image using the largest petite oval die, and mount on the blue oval mat on the front of the card.

OTHER IMAGES

Stamp the book, and the word "Congratulations" from the Tassel Time stamp set. Cut out the diploma and graduate head (the "o" and "i" from the word), and the book. Color with COPIC markers.

Color all of the trimmed images with COPIC markers. I used these colors:

  • Cap: C3, C5, C7
  • Skin: E0000, E000, E01
  • Diploma: Y21, Y28
  • Book: E09, E34, E37, E39

Enhance the tassel with the gold SPICA pen. Mount the images on the lower right edge of the main image on the front of the card.

SENTIMENT

Cut/emboss 2 ribbon banners - one in white, and one in blue. Trim the white one to just the inner portion of the banner. Stamp the sentiment in black ink on the white banner. Glue the white piece onto the matching area of the blue banner, and mount the banner in the upper right corner of the card.

Sunny Birthday Wishes

Betty_OctSketch

Inspiration

This card was designed based on a sketch from a sketch group I belong to called CardSketchesByZacksNana. My sketch partner is in Austrailia this month, so now my cards have gone "international"! Lots of fun!

I wanted to use fall colors, but still create a bright sunny greeting. I love this watering can image from Heartfelt Creations, so I used it for my focal point, and used shades of rust, yellow, and brown to create the fall mood.

Here's the result.

SunnyBirthdayWishes

Ingredients

Note: Finished card size is 5" x 5"

Paper

Really Rust (SU!)6" x 12" scored at 6"
Autumn Meadows DSP (SU!)6" x 6"
Stamper's Select White (Papertrey Ink)5 1/2" x 8 1/2"
More Mustard (SU!)2" x 4"

Inks

Memento Tuxedo Black (Tsukineko)
Memento Rich Cocoa (Tsukineko)

Stamps

HCPC 3305 Posy Patch Clusters PreCut Set (Heartfelt Creations)
HCPC 3306 Posy Patch Garden Delights PreCut Set (Heartfelt Creations)
Birthday Centers (Cornish Heritage Farms)

Accessories

Big Shot Pro (Sizzix)
Ribbon Banners Shapeabilities (Spellbinders)
Grand Scalloped Circles Nestabilities (Spellbinders)
Grand Plain Circles Nestabilities (Spellbinders)
COPIC Markers (Imagination International)
Craft Knife (Cutter Bee)
Buttercup Liquid Pearls (Ranger)
3-D Foam Squares (Scrapbook Adhesives)
Removeable tape (Scotch)
ATG (Scotch)
Scor-Pal
Rotary Trimmer (Fiskars)
Stamp-A-Ma-Jig

Instructions

BASE CARD

To create this shaped card, cut a piece of rust card stock measuring 6" x 12", score at 6" and fold. Place the second-smallest Grand Nestabilites scalloped circle die just above the fold, and secure with removeable tape. Cut/emboss to create the card. Cut/emboss the designer paper using the smallest Grand Nestabilites plain circle die. Mount this on the front of the card.

IMAGES

Stamp the watering can image twice in black ink on white paper. Cut out one image entirely, and just the flowers of the second image. Stamp the large posy cluster image twice in black ink on white paper. Cut out one image entirely, and just the large center flower of the second image. Stamp the small posy cluster in black ink on white paper, and cut it out.

Color all of the trimmed images with COPIC markers. I used these colors:

  • Flowers: YR21, YR23
  • Leaves: YG93, YG97
  • Watering can: E33, E39

Mount the full watering can image in the lower right area of the card front. Use foam squares to mount the second set of flowers onto the base image. Adhere the two clusters of flowers to the upper left diagonally from the watering can. Mount the single blossom using a foam square, rotating it slight to alternate the petals.

Finish with Buttercup liquid pearls in the center of each blossom. The easiest way to make smooth centers is to squeeze a little out onto the blossom, and lift the bottle straight up to release the paint. As it dries, it smooths into pretty round, pearl-shaped flower centers.

SENTIMENT

While the flower centers are drying, cut/emboss a ribbon banner using dark yellow card stock. Distress the edges with brown ink and a sponge. Using the stamp positioner, stamp the sentiment on the banner in brown ink. Mount at the bottom of the card front using foam squares.

IMAGE

Stamp the floral image in black ink on a white panel measuring 2" x 5". Stamp it again on additional white paper, and trim out the 3 largest blooms. Color with COPIC markers: Petals (R81, R83), Leaves (G21, G24). Mount the white panel onto a brown panel measuring 2 1/8" x 5 1/8".

BACKGROUND MAT

Cut a piece of green textured cardstock measuring 4 7/8" x 6 7/8", and stamp the smallest single flower stamp from the Botanical Floral set, and a leaf from the Leaf Medley set randomly over the bottom 3/4 of the panel using green ink.

ASSEMBLY

In the center of the green panel, mount a brown panel measuring 3 1/2" x 5 3/4". Top that brown panel with the pink "sponged" paper, measuring 3 3/8" x 5 5/8". Cut a 3" square from the light yellow paper, and cut it in half diagonally. Mount one triangle of yellow in the lower right corner of the brown panel. Cut a 3 3/8" square from the flower print paper, cut it diagonally, and mount a triangle in the lower left corner of the brown panel. Wrap a ribbon around the green cardstock and tie a knot on the right side just over the yellow triangle. Cut your base card from the pink cardstock, measuring 7" x 10", score it at 5", and fold on the score. Mount the green "stack" to the front of your card. Add the brown matted image in the center of the card front over the ribbon. Distress the individual flower cut-outs using a stylus from the Paper Blossom toolkit, and mount them onto the matching flowers using Zip-Dry. Finish the card by adding an adhesive pearl in the center of all 5 flowers.

  • Sand: E30, E33
  • Frame: E33

Tag

Cut and emboss the tag from white paper with the die cut machine, and sponge with caramel ink before removing the paper from the die. After removing the die cut, sponge some more ink around the edges of the die cut. Punch 3 holes in the tag, and add the brads.

Assembly

Cut and emboss a long rectangle from red paper.

Mount the patterned paper at the bottom of the card, followed by a strip of ribbon to cover the edge of the paper. Add the red rectangle, followed by the image. Add the tag to the right of the image.

Rock Star Birthday

Inspiration 20110320_RockStar

Well, I'm getting started on my April cards - and one of the first is a young man who LOVES music. I saw this new Stampavie stamp in the craft store on Friday, and immediately thought of Patrick (I'm sure he doesn't ready my blog, so I'm going to show it today).

Then to choose a layout, I went to the SCS Sketch Challenge, and found challenge 322. This is a fun card - one that can be made in a short period of time. Hope you enjoy!

Ingredients

Note: Finished card size is 4 1/4” x 5 1/2”

Paper

Brilliant Blue (SU!):  4 1/4” x 11”, scored at 5 1/2”
Jackpot DSP (SU!):  1 3/4” x 5”, plus a 3” x 4” piece
Yo Yo Yellow (SU!):  1 3/4” x 4 3/4”, plus a 3” x 4” piece, and a 2” x 2” square
Real Red (SU!):  3” x 4 3/4”
Stamper's Select White (Paper Trey Ink):  3” x 4”
Whisper White (SU!):  3” x 3”

Inks

Memento Tuxedo Black (Tsukineko) Real Red (SU!)
Brilliant Blue (SU!)

Stamps

I'm a Rock Star! (Stampavie) Rock Star (Inkadinkado)

Accessories

Classic Ovals (Small) Nestabilities (Spellbinders) Grand Calibur (Spellbinders)
Deckled Ovals (Large) Nestabilities (Spellbinders) Star Punch (SU!)
COPIC Markers (Imagination International) Scissors
Adhesive Transfer Gun 714 (Scotch) Scor-Pal
Rotary trimmer with straight blade (Fiskars)

Instructions

Image

Stamp the rock star on the large white panel, using black ink. Color with COPICS, and trim the image closely.

Here are the COPIC colors I used:

Jeans B0000, B32, B34
T-Shirt B34, B37
Shirt Y0000, Y08
Guitar R0000, R46
Skin E000, E00, RV10
Hair E41, E43, E47
Shoes W00, W2

Sentiment

Stamp the sentiment twice on the lighter weight white paper - once in red, and once in blue. Then cut out the blue word "rock", and the red word "star".

Punch a star out of yellow paper, and attach the words to the star.

Assembly

Step 1: Mount the long patterned paper rectangle on the card front, followed by the yellow rectangle, and the large red rectangle.

Step 2: Cut a deckled oval from the patterned paper, and a plain oval from yellow paper. Run the yellow oval through the die cutter again to emboss it.

Step 3: Mount the patterned oval, and yellow oval on top of the large red rectangle.

Step 3: Add the rock star on the yellow oval.

Step 3: Finish it off with the star sentiment in the lower left corner.20110320_RockStar_Inside

Final Touches

I often use the computer to generate a unique saying for the inside of cards - there are so many cool fonts available, it's fun to find one to match the theme of greeting.

For this card I used Microsoft Word to create a text box, with blue borders, and a red greeting with a "rock star" font for the word "rockin'."

I cut another patterned paper panel, measuring 4" x 5 1/4", and mounted it inside. I closely trimmed the text box, and added it on top of the patterned panel.

I’m Late, I’m Late!

Inspiration

This was my “theme song” for December, so of course, I missed a couple of birthdays around the Christmas/New Year holiday.  This is the card I made for those folks I missed. SC296

The layout is based on a past SCS Sketch Challenge - #296.

I used a digital image I found on a “coloring pages for kids page” – it’s a Disney image available in tons of places on the web, but not something that can be sold, just use for personal greetings.

20110109_ImLate

Ingredients

Paper

Note: finished card size is 4 1/4” x 5 1/2”

So Saffron (SU!)

4 1/4” x 11; score at 5 1/2”

Basic Black (SU!)

2 1/2” x 5”

Real Red (SU!)

a) 3 7/8” x 3 7/8” - 2 pieces
b) small scrap for red circle

Jackpot DSP (SU!)

a) 3 3/4” x 3 3/4” - 2 pieces
b) 2 3/8” x 4 7/8”

Stamper’s Select White (Paper Trey)

large enough to run through your printer for image and sentiment

Ink

None - image and sentiment are digital; I used an EPSON Rx620 printer, set to print on heavy weight paper.

Stamps

Digital image from Disney’s Alice in Wonderland

Accessories

COPIC Markers and SPICA glitter pens (Imagination International); Circle punches (SU!); Foam Tape; Scor-Pal; rotary trimmer with straight blade (Fiskars); Scissors

Instructions

Image

After printing the image, let it stand for a while, or heat it with a heat gun to prevent smearing of the printed lines.

For me, if I print first, then cut all my other cardstock pieces, by the time I’ve completed the cutting and gluing to get the card base done, the ink is plenty dry.

Color the image with COPIC markers and SPICA pens, then cut it out, trimming closely. Here are the colors I used:

Umbrella-B21, B24, E44

  • Coat - R24, R29
  • Vest - Y21, Y24
  • Pants, Tie - C3, C5, C7
  • Clock - Y26, Y28, Gold SPICA
  • Clock hands - Red SPICA
  • Ears, Nose, Mouth - R20, R22
  • Eyes - R20
  • Eyes, buttons - Pitch Black SPICA
  • Highlighting the white fur - C1, C00, BG0000

Sentiment

Print the sentiment in red on white cardstock, and punch it out with the smaller circle punch. Punch a red circle, and mount the sentiment on the red circle.

Assembly

Mount the patterned paper onto the solid color mats. You should end up with a rectangle matted in black, and two patterned squares mounted on red.

Mount the black matted rectangle across the lower portion of the card, followed by a square rotated to have a corner pointed vertically at the left end of the rectangle. Mount the second square onto the first one, with a flat side of the square across the top.

Add the sentiment in the lower right corner; then mount the image using foam tape.

Final Notes

Inside / Envelope

Inside the card, I stamped directly on the yellow card base using Real Red ink and the “I’m sorry I’m late” sentiment from the SU! set Birthday Greetings.

I made 4 of these - although I’m hoping I don’t have to use one again soon!

Thanks for stopping by.
